The streamlined application process is meant to address the basic life needs of arts professionals, and to reach as many individuals as possible.

A total of $55,000 in grants were awarded in 9 of the 11 council districts.

This year's movie night is organized by guest curators Peter Lucas and Emily Peacock; the pop-up backyard screening will feature short video works by Houston-based artists Lina Dib, Preetika Rajgariah, JooYoung Choi, Krista Steinke, and Britt Thomas.

Featuring approximately 520 artworks, the map shows pieces included in the City of Houston Art Collection, which are located in public spaces and inside various libraries, police stations, airports, service centers, and other municipal buildings.

While some of this round's awardees have already been given grants through the program, others are new to the list.

Established in 2018, and run by the city in collaboration with the Houston Arts Alliance, the grant program is designed to support artists' "creative risk-taking."
