March 4 will be the final day to see the Byzantine frescoes currently nestled in their frosted glass framework at the Menil’s Byzantine Fresco Chapel. The works, which the Menil rescued, then borrowed from the Orthodox Church of Cyprus, are being returned at the conclusion of a 28-year loan. Explorations are underway on how best to use the newly de-frescoed chapel building in the future.

The Joanna has been in talks with the Menil and are proud to say that since we have recently achieved museum status by the AMAMAM we will be the proud new tenants of the chapel! Hail Satan.
I’m hoping they expand the space into a stand-alone building for Jasper Johns, kind of like the Twombly building. He’s already got several pieces on loan to the Menil, so apparently he likes them well enough, and what a cool way to to honor him while he’s still alive (and maybe bring more of his work to Houston!).
