Johnson is pursuing his Ph.D. in Humanities and Literature at the University of Texas at Dallas.

Jannise is pursuing his Ph.D. in Literature and Creative Writing at the University of Houston. His essay is about a sculpture exhibition along the Houston Heights Esplanade.

During the shutdown, the acclaimed artist residency has a bit of extra room to host an informal writing residency in collaboration with Glasstire.

The prize awards $5,000 cash, a solo exhibition in 2021, and a Legal Mentorship Package worth $4,500.
