by Bill Davenport September 12, 2012

The Houston Fine Art Fair’s Artweek kicked off yesterday with a Blaffer Blow Out with Houston Young People for the Arts (HYPA). It’s just the first of a “a non-stop, bodacious, and action-packed week of glamorous events.” Tonight at the new Asia Society Texas Center, international artist Mel Chin talks with local collector Jereann Cheney  on the politics of collecting asian art, moderated by Rice Gallery Curator Kim Davenport. Thursday night’s the VIP preview benefiting the Core Program moves the events on-site to the Reliant Center. Hightlights of the art-fair’s offerings include a visit from actor and art collector Cheech Marin, and Glasstire’s own Kelly Klaasmeyer discussing online art criticism, both on Saturday.
