October 30 - December 20, 2014
In de la Mora’s recent work, he uses fire-making as a vehicle for reconsidering geometric abstraction. Through the patterns of thousands of used matches, he evokes two distinct historical moments: Minimalist/Op Art paintings from the 1950s-60s, and that of the industrialization of fire through the invention of matches. By pairing these two narratives, de la Mora explores issues of abstraction and vision, invention and industrialization.
