80’s comix icon Gary Panter had a two-man show in Sulphur Springs,TX over the Christmas holidays, says the NY Times. Apparently a reporter followed Panter, best known for his comic Jimbo and set designs for the seminal Pee-Wee’s Playhouse, as he flew to his hometown to show alongside his father, western artist Mel Panter, at Sulphur Spring’s Connally Street Gallery. The Times revels in recounting Panters’ encounters with family and childhood friends; Panter’s mother, Merle, has a quote about her  prodigal son that every contemporary artist might envy: “We’ve always been amazed at Gary, and we’ve always gone along with him. Some of his stuff I’m not too proud of, but say we’ve always been supportive.”
