It’s time again for my favorite once-free-for-all, now $30, juried art show, The Annual Big Show at Lawndale Art Center. If you live within 100 miles of Houston, you can cart your art to Lawndale on June 24 or 25, and have it paraded before this year’s juror: Laura Fried, assistant curator at the Contemporary Art Museum, St. Louis. Cash awards will go to three lucky winners at the opening on Friday, July 10, 6:30 – 8:30pm. Last year, Lawndale received something like $12,210 from 407 artists and handed out $3000 in prizes. 60 artists were in the show, leaving 347 underrecognized and emerging artists $30 poorer.
