NAEA, the National Art Education Association, has named Noel Bella Merriam, Director of Education, Diversity and Inclusion at the San Antonio Museum of Art (SAMA), as its 2021 Western Region Museum Education Art Educator. Since 2017, and through the pandemic, Merriam, in her role at SAMA, has worked with students and educators across San Antonio.
In recognizing Merriam’s contributions as a NAEA member, the honor was awarded through peer-reviewed nominations and was given to Merriam at the virtual NAEA 2021 National Convention earlier this month. “This award is being given to recognize excellence in professional accomplishment and service by a dedicated art educator,” states NAEA President Thom Knab. “Noel Bella Merriam exemplifies the highly qualified art educators active in education today: leaders, teachers, students, scholars, and advocates who give their best to their students and the profession.”
