Texan-French Art award

by Bill Davenport March 21, 2011

The Texan-French Alliance for the Arts is handing out this year’s Award for Excellence on March 30th. 6-9pm at Decorative Center Houston. Tickets are $80, $100 at the door. It’s an odd hybrid fundraising auction and award ceremony: 30 Texas artists whose works are being auctioned off are also simultaneously vying for a 10-day residency in either France or Texas. Presumably the artists will choose a residency in the region in which they do not currently reside! Founded in 2005 by former Consul General of France Denis Simmoneau, the TFAA is supported by a group of enthusiastic Francophile foundations, corporations and individuals and brought you Bernar Venet’s steel french fries in Houston’s Hermann park last year!
