This promises to be a great event: I only wish that the UH School of Art would alert their own grad students via email before they learn about it secondhand through Glasstire.
Eric – I don’t know if the SOA is organizing this anymore. We found out about it from this facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1686918468190348/
It appears that it is, in fact, not hosted by the school-my apologies to the SOA. Thanks for showing me the facebook page Brandon, I had not seen that before!
There are still problems with this; chiefly, the complete exclusion of sculpture students. That is partially a function of geography, but a bit of advanced notice would enable students at the South Park Annex the time to reach out to the main SOA area, to discuss moving pieces over, and to be included. These are smart and talented people, who deserve recognition for their work. That also goes for the students on the second and third floors. It would be preferable to communicate with all departments (Graphics, IPEF/New Media, Photography) before going public. This would develop community ties within the SOA: Together, we can work together to create a more egalitarian, diverse event, and maximize our public visibility.
Jiwei, if you see this, I’m in room 312. My door is open!
Make a Facebook event! Open the Annex! the only ‘too late’ time is the next day.
I’d love to see what the sculpture students are up to.
It doesn’t have to be a big production. At open studios, people really just go to see work in a messy studio.
I’m with Iva. Open up SPA!! Eric, bring your work over there and some other work from Fine Arts and make another cool open studios at the Annex. Agreed, LOTS of talent in both grad and undergrad over there. And then invite me I’ll go to it

yay! thanks for the heads up, Brandon! I <3 sculpture (and the mixed bag possibilities with student work).
