The first accounts of dissident Chinese artist Ai WeiWei’s detention on April 3 of this year are coming out. Reuters carried this story by Sui-Lee Wee detailing the intense pressure brought to bear on Ai during 67 days of detention, where he was reportedly watched by officers 24 hours a day, and subjected to 50+ interrogations. Released on bail in June and told not to talk to the press, Ai began tweeting messages again Monday, urging the release of associates of his who were also taken into custody, saying “if you don’t speak out you let a lot of people down, you put them in danger.”
