Reception Honoring Houston Mayor Annise Parker and 2012 City of Houston Elected Officials Tuesday

by Bill Davenport January 21, 2012

Everyone smile at the camera and say “public/private partnership!” On tuesday evening, January 24, there will be bit of political theater a Houston’s Hobby Center for the Performing Arts- only this time, it’s the politics that are real, the theater merely the stage setting: the Houston Arts Alliance is hosting a reception for Houston Mayor Annise Parker and the newly-elected crop of city council members at Zilkha Hall in the Hobby Center downtown from 5:30 -7:30 p.m. Described as a “prologue to a new creative year,” it’s HAA’s  jump start for 2012 arts lobbying, giving the new rulers some face time with arts administrators with big projects coming up: raising money for Ai WeiWei’s Circle of Animals to visit Hermann Park,  re-sculpting the muddy banks of Buffalo Bayou into an underwater Disneyland, and consolidating independent arts orgs into the new  IAC building on Main St. If you’ve got a project, or just want to press the flesh,  RSVP to [email protected], or phone 713 581-6116.
