Local boy Seth Alverson returns to Houston with a shiny new MFA from Virginia Commonwealth and a solo exhibition at Art Palace. It’s nice to see that VCU hasn’t forced him into making relational sculpture and that he has upped the ante on his always impressively rendered and creepily off-putting paintings. There’s something of a Diane Arbus-rendered-in-luscious-paint quality to his newest pictures and they look great in reproduction. As always, we’re eager to see what new and eerie tales he has to tell and we continue to be impressed with Art Palace as it puts on some of the best exhibitions of young Texas talent in the Lone Star State.
