Electronic voting for Art President of Dallas is now open. Campaigning began last night at Ro2 art, where candidates (and campaign instigators) Thor Johnson and Joachim West delivered stump speeches at the opening of West’s uplifting new show, Mother Earth is a Dirty Whore.

When not running for Art President, West’s “artistic research practice explores the intervening role of chance into formalist aesthetics by combining production commodity painting with a unique mediated monoprint/painting transfer process.”

Other candidates on West & Johnson’s Art President Ballot include former President Ludwig Schwarz, Gabriel Dawe, Arthur Peña, Ricardo Paniagua, Danielle Georgiou, George W. Bush (who has previous administrative experience, despite his weakness in the art area), and Chuck and George.

no matter who I vote for “Thank you for voting for George W. Bush” pops up. Is this some kind of commentary on election fraud?!

Thank you for voting, Tom. There seems to be some kind of bug in the system. I will contact the Dallas Art President Election Commission and also the third-party contractor in charge of the voting website and get to the bottom of this serious problem ASAP.

I don’t know, but i think we should hold an online electronic poll (powered by wall outlet) where people(s) can vote as to whether or not they do or do not think it is a commentary on election fraud. I nominate Klaus Nomi and second that that motion right into tha’ mother fucking committee cabinet of exploritory commissions !!!
case adjudicated and adjurned!!!

After a careful review of the situation a decision has been made. In order to rectify this grievous problem there will be a polling night at Centraltrak before the winner of Art President of Dallas is to be announced at The MAC. Thank you for your patience in this matter.

I also feel that it is my duty to inform you all that I have been informed by not only Paris Hilton and P. Diddy but also by the Hulkster himself that if you don’t vote you will in fact die.

I want to thank the approximately 100 people who physically voted for Dallas Art President after it was discovered that there was an issue with the online polling system.

The show was crowded and the artwork was hung in the hallway. Certain voters told me that they had to fill out long and complicated forms, struggle to get through the packed hallway to get their thumb stamped, only to have to push their way back through the same jam-packed hallway in order to cast their ballot.

Furthermore, voters remarked that the volunteer polling officials, Richard Miller, Chris Zimmerly and C.J. Critt, sent them to the wrong places and they reported that when they finally had a chance to put their information sheet/ballot into the ballot box that it was pulled from their hands and that a grinding noise gave them the impression that the machine had shredded their ballot. To add “apparent” insult to injury, they were then handed stickers that said “My Vote Counted”.

I personally spoke to Election Commissioner John Frum about these concerns and he assured me that this was not a paper shredder but rather an automated vote counting machine. According to Commissioner Frumm, the winner/winners will be announced in the coming weeks at a ceremony at the Mckinney Avenue Contemporary.

On behalf of Thor Johnson and myself, we feel like we ran a strong race and are grateful for all of the support that we received from our friends at CentralTrak and Contre-Culture. Thank you Heyd Fontenot, Susan Roth Romans and Jordan Roth from RO2, Dwayne Carter, Teresa Megahan, Brian Keith Jones and Brian Scott (aka Chuck & George) and everyone who helped us to run this long and fruitful campaign. We can’t wait to hear who won!

Here are some photos from our campaign, documenting our well-fought and successful venture:
