Kitties in Space: Art Pod Spotlights Under-Funded Texas School Art Programs

CatsSpacesuitsNASAThe Woodlands High School Art Club, under the direction of TWHS art teacher Jim Kitchen, will transform a PODS storage container into a temporary art studio at the Woodlands Waterway Art Festival on April 13-14 to dramatize cutbacks in school art programs. Said Kitchen, “Forward-thinking schools know that cutting programs creates animosity with members of the school community. We have been very fortunate that our administrators have shown great creativity and planning when handling budget restrictions,” Kitchen said. “This particular project will help increase awareness of the talent and drive to succeed that we have at this school. It will also highlight the art club and the great opportunities the students have to expand themselves creatively throughout the year.”

PODS Houston donated the container, which will be located at Woodlands High School for the month of March as it is being prepared for its debut as an art project, based around the student chosen theme: “Kitties in Space.”
