In 1979, a year widely accepted as the official end of twentieth-century modern culture, Texas art legend James Surls helped found Lawndale Art Center. In 2009, he’s coming to reminisce with a talk titled "Lawndale from 1979", on Thursday, August 27, at 6 pm. Afterwards, there’s a reception at Barbara Davis gallery, where Surls’ From 2009 show is on view.
