Native son and Texas art’s face to the world, James Surls, is back in Houston for the opening of his show at Barbara Davis Gallery, and will be on hand to sign his copies of his 2009 monograph, James Surls: From The Heartland at the opening on Saturday, July 11, from 6:30-8:30. The former director of the University of Houston’s School of Art and a founder of Lanwndale Art Center, Surls lived for many years in Splendora, TX and, since 1997, is based in Carbondale, Colorado.
