To the intense embarassment of the French, Unesco has threatened to put the bison-filled caves at Lascaux on its list of endangered sites
after repeated quarreling has failed to repel the fungi that threaten
to overrun the pictures. Luckily, Lascaux II, the full-size
reproduction of the caves that tourists can visit (the original has
been closed to visitors since 1963) is still mold-free, as is the
