April 20 - July 30, 2024
From Echo Gallery:
“Echo Gallery in Blanco will celebrate a “Kaleidoscope of Recent Works” by painter and printmaker Denise Canat with an opening reception, April 20 from 5 to 7 p.m. at its gallery, located at 1725 S US Hwy 281 in Blanco.
For neighbors to the south seeking an alternative to Fiesta San Antonio, Echo’s theme for Canat, a longtime French resident, is “April in Paris.” Blanco’s haute cuisine bistro, 419, will cater bites, and Milam & Greene Whiskey will pour libations. Milam & Greene is an award-winning, woman-owned distillery in an oak grove north of town.
Art and travel have been cornerstones of Canat’s life since her childhood in a family that moved often, though she stayed in New Orleans long enough to earn a BFA from Tulane University. She was born in Gaudaloupe, French West Indies, and settled in Paris in 1972. In France, her work has been given exhibits in Paris, Aix-en-Provence, Tours, and La Ciotat, in the south of France, where she currently resides.
World travel continues to inform her art, especially her selection of media, her color palette and the “stylistic aesthetic” discovered in Asian art.
Always seeking new ways of creating, Canat explains that her “Collage Nudes” in the “Kaleidoscope” exhibit are an exploration using new materials and techniques combined with classical figure drawing. Works in the show from her “Synesthesia” series are primarily narrative, where she integrates carefully cut text and images with painted and grapic elements.
Echo Gallery recently was praised in Paper City magazine, Dallas, as a “uniquely curated art gallery and antique store with mid-century treasures from designers such as Eames, Aarnio, and Girard. You never know what you’ll find there.”
For art adventurers who want to make a weekend of it, charming B&Bs and riverside cabins in and near Blanco are listed online.”
