From Daisha Board Gallery:
“Antonio Lechuga (b. 1985) is known for his unique blend of art, design, architecture, and social commentary. His work dissects and celebrates the Tejano culture, grappling with the complexities of identity and the erasure of history in the current political environment. An alum of the Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-Arc) in Los Angeles, CA, and El Centro College in Dallas, TX, Antonio has honed his craft and vision through a robust combination of academic rigor and personal exploration.
“Survival, Death and Home” represents an intimate and powerful commentary on the dualities of the human experience, especially within the context of the Mexican-American communities in Texas. By manipulating cobija blankets—items steeped in Latinx tradition—into collages and appliqués, Lechuga builds vivid narratives that explore themes of endurance, migration, and the human condition.
This exhibition is particularly poignant as it draws from Lechuga’s personal ordeal with gun violence, as well as the broader issues of human migration at the Texas/Mexico border. The works serve as a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and the constant oscillation between life’s fragility and its tenacity.
Antonio’s art has been showcased both in the United States and internationally, with notable recent exhibitions at esteemed Dallas-Fort Worth venues, including 500X Gallery, the Geometric MADI Museum, Arts Fort Worth, and more. As an artist represented by Daisha Board Gallery, this exhibition is among the most anticipated art events of the spring season.”
