From Laura Rathe Fine Art:
“Since his youth spent in the tropical locales of Hawaii and Central America, Slonem delighted in the lush environments and vibrant denizens of the forests. For Slonem, painting is a meditation on the intrinsic connection between nature and spirit, binding the artist to his signature motifs of bunnies, birds, and butterflies. In addition to his vivid menagerie, he reflects on the exotic locations of his childhood through paintings of flowers and landscapes.
Slonem’s work bridges time periods and cultures, emblematic in the combination of his neo-expressionist style with hand-picked antique frames. Every painting acts as a window into a world of curiosity, bidding viewers to bring a taste of the fantastical into their own spaces. The famous ‘bunny walls’ are complex arrays of Slonem’s paintings hung salon-style, and inspired the exhibition title, Hare Salon. The cheeky wordplay reminds us that sometimes the most impactful art is full of wonder and charm.”
