From Craighead-Green Gallery:
“Configuration: an arrangement of elements in a particular form, figure, or combination.
The geometric, organic and random formations inspired by nature and how they came to be is the story Frank Morbillo pursues in the creation of his sculptures. The mathematical unfurling of a flower blossom, a canyon carved by the hydraulic forces of a river, or a sudden volcanic eruption are all stories of natural creations. A plant’s growth pattern, forces that shape geologic formations, and humans who interpret the stories are all determined by the rules of nature. Or is it just physics and mathematics?
Similarly the configuration of a sculpture, its arrangement of elements, provides the rhythm and flow of its story. Over the years Morbillo has used steel, stainless steel, bronze, cast glass and most recently recycled cast plastic, to tell these stories. Fabricated and cast metals have remained the most consistent thread in his work, the ebbs and flows of the stories expressed through the combination of contrasting materials within each sculptural composition.”
