From Lone Gallery:
“Pure Land might best be viewed as the very embodiment of my presence, my essence. An offering of thanks to every teacher whose help has guided me through thin veils and thickest of thieves. To be alive can be all I need. The title is adapted from the pages of one of my favorite books, “You Are Here”, by Thich Nhat Hahn. Embedded in this new body of work, Pure Land, is an ode to self-energy. Something a psychic once told me I would be moving into. The themes of acceptance, integration, death and birth are allowed to be explored and left to us, you and me (the collective we), to continue searching for.*hint: we never fully arrive. The groundless nature of these works are meant to harmonize with an inward space. An inward calling. Where I view the world hanging in spatial balance. I arrange my work/my life in a very intentional manner of chaos. Nature, my greatest teacher, reminds me how to be soft and tender here. Hard lines balanced with soft hues. Viewing from where I stood to create these works is an invitation to feeling. With the re-introduction of language into my work I’m reminded of its limitations. Also, the power our words hold and they’re very tangible tethering to life. I live in these words. Making my home between them. They offer the viewer little guide posts and clues. A cliff-side overlook onto the landscape unfurling before you on the wall. Within Pure Land arises a deeper looking at one self. Believing that the personal is beautifully universal. And with an invitation to remove your shoes and feel the ground beneath your feet… well, what can I say, except this feels like home. This exhibition will also feature a one of a kind tactile studio like experience. Lone Gallery will be bring the feel and look of Kyle Steed’s studio to the gallery and with the help of our friends at Loloi Rugs we will overlay and blanket the Gallery floor with beautiful Turkish made rugs. We will ask our guests to, like Kyle does, remove their shoes and enjoy the work while grounding and enjoying the fell of these amazing rugs on their bare feet.”
