From Baker Schorr Fine Art:
“We are thrilled to present Ellen Heck Figure to Figure, the artist’s second solo show at Baker Schorr Fine Art. Ellen Heck is a printmaker, mixed-media artist, painter, and author living in North Carolina. She studied philosophy at Brown University and printmaking at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. As a long-term artist-in-residence at Kala Art Institute, she began a practice within which to explore abstract ideas through tangible print processes and representational metaphor.
Having grown up visiting her grandparents and other relatives in Midland, Ellen Heck has a long-time connection to our community. We feel like she is family, fitting for the content of this exhibition which explores figures and relationship, evolution and connection. Ellen describes the exhibition this way:
“A collection of pieces from four projects that all depict human figures rendered by the same hand at different scales and with different materials has been an opportunity to examine some effects of format. As one project reaches a conclusion, it will also tend to push against some of those conventions sparking ideas and bringing up new questions – the seeds of the next series. Among these works reside some of the questions, conclusions and observations surrounding four figure-focused bodies of work included in Figure to Figure.”
I certainly hope you plan to join us for what promises to be a delightful and inspiring evening, Thursday, March 9 at the Opening Reception 5:30 – 8:30pm! Best of all, Ellen will be on hand to discuss her work and process with an Artist’s Talk at 7 pm. As a prelude to her talk, Fox Den will present A Little Style Show at 6:30 pm. Valet parking will be provided.”
