From Downtowner Gallery:
“In the “So Close/So Far” exhibit, artists show us how they create compositions with perspective and scale, depicting realistic and abstract imagery from the imagination, personal experience, and even from outer space.
Matthew Hovencamp’s “Freak Show” investigates the fantastical dream world of our minds by portraying the insides of someone’s brain as an amusement park. Prakash Spex’s “We Are All Electric” surprises the viewer with a piece that is both close up and faraway at the same time, wherein one image pops out as you suddenly see it hiding in plain sight. Caleb Sexton is a landscape photographer of sorts, using telescopic photography show places like the Belt of Orion. These pieces are on view alongside works by other local and area artists, and all artwork is for sale, unless otherwise noted.
The exhibit comprises 2D and 3D artworks, including Embroidery; Flag book; Shibori; Tapestry; Paintings in acrylic, oil and watercolor; Mixed media with miniatures; Creative reuse; Illustration; Weaving; Found object art; Photography; Pyrography; Cut paper art; Sculpture; Telescopic Photography; and Fiber art.
