Performance | Xxavier Edward Carter: Where There Are Mountains to Move
4:00 p.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Henry C. Beck Jr. Park, 1807 Ross Avenue at N. Akard St.
Xxavier Edward Carter (born 1986, Dallas, Texas) is a transdisciplinary artist who creates video, publications, installation, and performance that link the material history of currency to the histories of marginalized people. His work builds upon the storytelling practices of his Black and Native American heritage. For Dallas Art Fair, Carter will perform the latest iteration of his exploration into the myth of Sisyphus. Where There Are Mountains to Move puts the artist in the shoes of the mythic king. Suited, Carter moves the remains of a broken rock to higher ground one push at a time, physically reassembling broken pieces. Fragmented after tragedy or victory, this performance ritualizes struggle and is a reminder to persist even after a burden has seemingly been lifted. Carter is represented by and will have work in the booth of Erin Cluley Gallery.
