From Craighead-Green Gallery:
“My paintings are not about things that I can see, so I try to find things in the visible world to convey my invisible ideas. Sometimes we can better understand abstract truths through concrete, material metaphors. My themes and concepts are taken from philosophy and theology and in particular the Christian Scriptures. I continue in this work to use flocks of birds as willing metaphors for our humanity. They are common and numerous, but are also individually known by God.
The title for this group of work is from Second Corinthians 4:17,18:
“For while at present our tribulations are momentary and light, they work for us above measure an eternal weight of glory. While we look not at the things that are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.”
I use a wax medium in a cold encaustic technique, suspending the oil pigment and collage elements in wax. The completed image is then entombed in multiple layers of wax creating a translucent veil.”
