From Valley House Gallery:
“Valley House Gallery is pleased to present our first solo exhibition of paintings by Dallas artist Amy Werntz. After her youth in Tyler, Texas, Amy moved to Dallas and divided her time between two worlds: her studio and interior design. An interest in painting elderly family members led to the portraits that have been her focus since 2016. Since then, Werntz has been selected for many juried exhibitions and has received numerous awards for her portraits.
About these paintings, Amy Werntz states:
“Time has always been an obsession for me. I aim to capture ordinary moments in people’s lives—removing the environment so the viewer’s interaction with the subject isn’t distracted by place. My hope is that viewers interact with the paintings and see something of themselves, a loved one, or just what they need to see. I’m drawn to older people at markets, bookstores, quilt fairs, cafes, both in Dallas and wherever I travel. The subject’s true story is not what is most important to me; rather it is the story the viewer creates through the lens of their own personal history. I strive to show the value of the older generation that is so often cast aside in our society. When you are young, you live with the face you are given; when you are old, you live with the face you have made. My goal is to give importance to the ordinary moments in everyday life.”
Amy Werntz will give an Artist Talk on Saturday, September 11, at 11:00 am.
“Amy Werntz: Ordinary Moments” will be on view at Valley House Gallery through October 2, Monday through Saturday, 10:00am-5:00pm.”
