From Alta Arts:
“The Alta Arts invites you to join Houston Artists Charis Ammon, Jacob Villalobos and Bill Willis in a roundtable discussion with Program Director Alexander Squier about their respective work included in Stratum 2021, our inaugural exhibition in the space. All three artists wrestle with and reconcile their experiences with the urban landscape in different ways. The conversation will delve into the inspirations behind their work, and explore our collective experience of the Houston landscape.
Bill Willis’ works chosen for this exhibition focus on scenes of the city’s bayous, freeway overpasses, culverts and pylons. While these subjects are not inherently beautiful, Willis’ rapid interpretations in watercolor transform them completely. Charis Ammon’s paintings address the urban landscape through moments of imperfection that speak to cycles of construction and demolition, embodying the quiet tension in the landscape all around us. Jacob Villalobos is a multi-disciplinary artist working in collage, mold making and ceramics. His work references geological objects such as plastiglomerate stones and core samples, creating a crossroads between manmade objects and geologic events.
The exhibition is on view through August 29th, 2021. Parking is available in the adjacent lot. The Alta Arts is located at 5412 Ashbrook Drive, Houston, TX 77081.”
