From SAMFA:
“The San Angelo Museum of Fine Arts is pleased to host this special tenth-anniversary celebration of the Texas Sculpture Group. Originally planned for 2020 and postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we now present works by over ninety different artists from all over Texas, and some living outside the state who have Texas ties. From traditional to cutting edge, small-scale to monumental, this all-member exhibition fills our expansive galleries (and the rooftop terrace), offering insight into the range of material, aesthetic, and conceptual possibilities that define contemporary sculpture.
Founded in 2010, the Texas Sculpture Group is a member-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit formed for the purpose of promoting sculpture as an art form, educating the public regarding the aesthetics of sculpture, and promoting and supporting sculptors. With over one hundred and fifty artist members statewide, the TSG promotes contemporary sculpture for Texas through exhibitions, exhibition catalogs, public programs, online promotion of sculptors and sculpture-based projects, and reinforcing the strong sense of camaraderie among Texas-based sculptors. The TSG is an official Chapter of the International Sculpture Center.
This project is the outcome of one of many successful partnerships between SAMFA and other institutions and organizations, in this case, the Texas Sculpture Group. We are grateful for the TSG and its leadership in bringing this exhibit to fruition, and especially to the artists, without whose wonderful work there would be no exhibit. We are also grateful to the Juror of this exhibition, Johannah Hutchison, Executive Director of the International Sculpture Center. Her thoughtful selections present us with a diverse picture of all that is physically and conceptually possible with sculptural media.
To read more about the artists and their works, including the artists’ statements about the pieces in the show, visit www.samfa.org/texas-sculpture-group-2021.
The exhibition will be open through Sunday, September 12, 2021.”
