July 17 - August 28, 2021
From Big Medium:
“Big Medium is pleased to present Markers, the individual and collaborative work of Kel Brown, Russell Brxwn, and Emily Eisenhart. Exploring the rhythmic language of lines, color, and minimal paint strokes, these Austin-based artists are each leaving their marks across the city, working on the sides of buildings, the surfaces of everyday functional objects, textiles, and more. Their individual practices often involve and advocate for connection and community, transforming public spaces into intimate ones that keep our city visually dynamic and emotionally grounded.
Markers, runs July 17 through August 28, 2021. Member’s preview, by appointment only, July 17, 12 – 6pm. To schedule your visit please go to bigmedium.org/markers.
About the artists
Kel Brown is a multi-disciplinary artist with 8 years of professional experience, as well as a portfolio of varied accomplishments including gallery exhibitions, private commissions, public murals, and municipal projects for the City of Austin.
Russell Brxwn is a visual artist whose work incorporates patterning lines he refers to as TWIGS. These lines to Russell are meditative, and they help his hand to lose tight control and shut off any restrictions caused by an overthinking mind. The spontaneity of these lines allows him to create shapes and structures in a more concise manner, really revealing the substance of an image.
Emily Eisenhart is a multidisciplinary artist based in Austin, Texas. The daughter of an artist and anthropologist, she grew up with a paintbrush in one hand and a field book in the other. An avid adventurer, she is constantly exploring, and her work is heavily inspired by the shapes, patterns, and natural colors around her. With a formal background in Cultural Anthropology, Emily approaches many of her projects as an ethnographer, diving deep into the culture of a place to create dynamic color palettes, marks, and story-driven artwork. Her work can be found on many walls around Austin.
