“Rising Action: Part 1, is a series of artist-led partnerships with Austin’s social justice advocates. Next up in the window show series is, Invisible Barriers, a selection of the intricate pattern-work by Austin based painter, Kel Brown.
The tenor and visual rhythm found within Brown’s work is the result of his exploration of the patterns and feelings that have helped him to maintain his sanity in this very challenging year. Quarantine and the economic shutdown, as well as the global awakening on the topic of race and policing in this country, has given many the opportunity and time to reflect on the state of our country and society as a whole. Brown hopes to use this platform as a call to action; helping to raise awareness around the atrocities being committed, as well as inspiring others to organize and support these vitality important initiatives.
Kel has selected the Justice for Javier Ambler Foundation for this art partnership. His hope is to increase public awareness around the tragic loss of Javier at the hands of Williamson County Police Department last year. Dimension Gallery and Kel Brown have committed to donating 50% of any sales from this exhibition to help support the ongoing work of Justice for Javier, his widowed wife, and three sons.
