alligator is an exhibition organized by Partial Shade, a nomadic curatorial project focused on hosting exhibitions in non-traditional spaces. “The show will take place within the perimeter of Club Lake, a small man-made body of water about an hour outside of Houston. Participating artists were tasked with creating a work that would engage directly with the water, floating on or just below the surface, sitting on the sandy bottom, in canoes or on the dock. The works are negotiating balance, buoyancy, displacement, distance, and wetness. How does the viewing experience change when the floor of the gallery is permeable? Viewers are invited to experience the show from the dock, or they may swim, float, or canoe out to view the work in the water.”
Artists in the show include: Cara Chan, Ryan Hawk, Michael Muelhaupt, Anne Clare Rogers, Hallie Gluk, Gracelee Lawrence, Claire Lachow, Devin Balara, Daniel Klaas Beckwith, Jordie Oetken, Martha Hviid, Cameron Cameron, Hilliary Gabryel, Max Cleary, Rachael Starbuck, Zoe Koke, Aaron Meyers, Jesse Cline, and Annie May Johnston.
