Borbetomagus meets Zhameela: early evidence of the connections between experimental music and bellydance unearthed

by Bill Davenport May 21, 2011

You thought that Ms. YET (Yet Torres) was the pioneer of improv/experimental/noise bellydance? Wait! There is a trailblazing precedent! A never-before-screened DVD arrived in sound artist David Dove’s mailbox; it’s a document of a 1986 performance by Borbetomagus with bellydancer Zhameela at the “New Directions Festival” in Piermont, New York. They, Who Sound will generously be screening it on Monday, May 23, 7pm at AvantGarden in Houston as part of their ongoing exploration into “Experimental Music and Bellydance.”
