Houston welcomes welcomes the American Association of Museums this weekend

by Bill Davenport May 20, 2011

Temporary posters at Bush and Hobby airports, Portable art pods at Discovery Green: the 105th American Association of Museums Annual Meeting and Expo is coming to Houston May 22-25. While not expected to generate the beef ‘n’ beds revenue of the recent NCAA final four, the AAM blog is already scoping out the best spots in town for frozen drinkery, and the convention and visitors bureau has rolled out a special purpose mini-site: Actor Jim Parsons’ Welcome-to-Houston video, in which he claims to “have seen more art in Houston than in New York” is nicely counterbalanced: one of the scrolling news quotes just below reads: “Houston can seem like a city you can’t escape fast enough. That’s because you don’t really know it.”
