A trove of small, intimate portraits based on casual pencil drawings of the faces he sees on the streets and in the subways of his adopted NYC.  Winter, born in Denison, Texas, currently lives and works in Santa Fe and New York. He holds a BFA from the University of Texas at Austin and a MFA from the University of Iowa in Iowa City.  He returned to Texas in 1961 where he taught drawing and painting at Southern Methodist University for twenty six years.

The Fort Worth Drawing Center presents its second exhibition, Drawing You In. The exhibition features three artists – Caitlin Allen, Sean Robert FitzGerald, and Marco Raparelli.  Often perceived as a solitary or isolated practice, drawing is explored by these artists as an active medium through multiple figures or interactive installation. Drawing You In is curated by Visiting Curator Alexander Unkovic, the McDermott Curatorial Intern for Contemporary Art, Dallas Museum of Art.

Resurrected Dreams: Cowboys, Aliens and Espionage: Randall Reid

Resurrected Dreams is the first body of Reid’s work focused on specific themes. Informed by a personal interest in television series, movies, and 1960s sci-fi, the work explores collective pop-cultural history. The exhibition features mini-installations of antique toys including model stagecoaches and riders on horseback, plastic guns, alien figurines and paintings.

Cohn Drennan Contemporary presents three series of paintings from three artists, Giovanni Valderas, Michael McKenzie and Allison Gregory. Valderas incorporates mixed media to depict ambiguous objects in his paintings. Gregory uses found objects and toys from Hobby Lobby and Michaels in her work, while cultural symbols and dream imagery inform McKenzie's paintings.

The Foundation’s First Artist in Residence, British-born artist Dan Rees has been invited to live for a time in Dallas and create original work. Area art students will be invited to meet the artist and watch the process of production. For one of his works, A Good Idea Is A Good Idea, Rees reproduced famous oeuvres by Malevich, Mondrian, and de Kooning, among others, on several copies of the Beatles’ White Album covers.

Romare Bearden: A Black Odyssey

Romare Bearden: A Black Odyssey is an exhibition of nearly 50 artworks by Romare Bearden (1911-1988). The collages, watercolors and prints in the exhibition are based on Homer's epic poem "The Odyssey." The exhibition is the first full-scale presentation of these works outside of New York City and is organized by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service (SITES). Admission is free - and that's how it should be!
