419 Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78701
Selected artworks from the Museum’s permanent collection highlighting the recent acquisitions from the Patricia and Carmine De Vivi Mexican Mask Collection, including over 300 popular art masks. These folkloric masks from Central Mexico, including the states of Guerrero and Oaxaca are wood masks used ceremonially, available commercially, and are limited edition art objects. Many of the design elements are appropriated pre-Hispanic imagery conflated with Catholic saints and popular modern images of Mexico.
