ORANGE, Texas, June 27, 2012 - The Stark Museum of Art invites families and visitors of all ages to Artists Family Day on Saturday, July 14, 2012, between 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. Admission to this event is free of charge and all ages are welcome.
Artists Family Day will delight all by celebrating artists and their art-making processes. Visitors can create their own take-home art, make clay masterpieces and weave on a Navajo-style loom. For young visitors, there will be storytelling, and families can go on a scavenger hunt for prizes. Complimentary refreshments will be available.
Visitors of all ages will enjoy demonstrations by members of The Art Studio, Inc. These artists will help visitors to learn more about throwing clay on a wheel to make pottery and will aid attendees in making their own clay masterpieces. The Art Studio, in Beaumont, Texas, is a non-profit organization that strives to encourage artists in the area. Representing The Art Studio will be Director, Greg Busceme, along with Elizabeth Fontenot and Cynthia Grimes.
Especially for the adult visitors, museum docents will give ten-minute gallery spotlights every half-hour, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Sherrill Porterfield will talk on Charley Harper and his series of stylized prints of American birds, and Ed Henry will present on Joseph Henry Sharp and his variety of romantic tipi paintings. These presentations will be in the newly opened special exhibition Explore Art: Materials and Methods Revealed. Family Day attendees will be able to visit the exhibition which explores tools, materials and methods artists use to create different styles and includes an interactive, hands-on Education Area. Explore Art will be on view through September 22, 2012.
Amelia Wiggins, Educator for Studio and Family Programs, welcomes the public, saying, \"This will be an exciting day for visitors as they experience a variety of techniques used to create art. Visitors will leave with a better understanding of what it takes to create works of art in different media. With the variety of experiences from stories to demonstrations to talks, there is something for every age.\" Wiggins reminds families that all ages are welcome, but children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.
