Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth Summer 2012 Children's Gallery Programs
Children's Gallery Programs at the Modern
Drawing from the Collection for Children
Drawing from the Collection for Children is now double the fun! This summer, two program sessions will be offered, one for ages five to eight and one for ages nine to 12. Each free session is led by an artist who takes participants through informal drawing exercises in relation to works in the Modern's collection. Children under the age of six must be accompanied by an adult during the program. Bring a sketchbook and pencils. Attendance is limited; early arrival is encouraged. A sign-up sheet is located at the front desk.
First Sundays of the month
June 3--Jen Rose (ages five to eight) and Aqsa Shakil (ages nine to 12)
July 1--Jim Burton (ages five to eight) and David Willburn (ages nine to 12)
August 5--Harmony Padgett (ages five to eight) and Carol Benson (ages nine to 12)
September 2--Mary Emma Hawthorne (ages five to eight) and Christopher Bond (ages nine to 12)
Wonderful Wednesdays is now twice as nice, offered every second and third Wednesday of the month. This program for families with young children is led by a docent and includes a gallery project designed by the education department. Both the tour and project focus on a few works in the Modern's collection. Registration is not required, but a sign-up sheet is provided at the front desk the day of the program. Attendance is limited; admission is free.
June 13 and 20--Visiting the work of Lawrence Weiner and Anselm Kiefer
July 11 and 18--Visiting the work of Callum Innes and Jacques Villeglé
August 8 and 15--Visiting the work of Philip Guston and Ellsworth Kelly
September 12 and 19--Visiting the work of Lucian Freud
Remember to check out our sketchbooks for children of all ages. These free sketchbooks are available at the admission desk.
Docent-led tours of the galleries are offered Tuesday through Sunday at 2 pm. A tour focusing on architecture is available on the first Saturday of each month at 11 am; a tour focused specifically on Lucian Freud: Portraits (opening July 1) is available at 2 pm on the first Saturday of each month. Public Spanish-language tours are also available on the first Sunday of each month at 2 pm. These tours do not require prior arrangements and begin in the Museum lobby.
