April 3 - June 8, 2024
From SITE 131:
“Dallas’ ten-year SITE131 opens Spring season on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, with Construction site: 3 in 3D, showing through Saturday, June 8, 2024, a high-powered sculpture exhibition featuring three (3) North Texas artists: Alicia Eggert, Jeffrey Lee, and Kasey Short runs concurrently at 131 Payne Street with the highly popular and anticipated Dallas Art Fair. Curated by guest curator John Pomara, artist and long-term professor at The University of Texas at Dallas, he invited artists, mostly new to the Texas community, to expand their presence in size, position, and materials. Meeting the audience head-on at the large floating central wall is artist Alicia Eggert’s attention-getting text-phrasing: ALL THE LIGHT YOU SEE IS FROM THE PAST. Eggert grabs and holds the audience’s imagination with a double-entendre: words that flip easily and come to mean two different aspects of the text’s intentions. Never meant to trick the viewer into something unexpected, Eggert uses her bright intelligence to engage the audience’s imagination. While in SITE131’s gallery space, visitors meet other Eggert’s surprise text experiences always coupled by her invented text. After the welcoming the textural surprises, the audience is then impacted by size. Exhibition artist Kasey Short bombards the guests with sheer monumentality! Standing almost 20-feet high is a bulbous, futuristic, site-specific watchtower that plays with the viewer’s imagination. In an interdisciplinary approach between sculpture, architecture, and new media, Shorts’ artwork balances nature and future. He plays with the site-specific object in the huge volume of space, engaging the audience in surprise and delight. The simple elegant shape transforms the guests’ imagination into something way beyond what is expected in an art gallery environment. With another opportunity for surprise and delight, artist Jeffrey Lee appears in his first sculptural exposure to the public. Lee, as the talented and respected Dallas entrepreneur he has been, has left the world of highly designed gift items to become an inventive sculptor producing three-dimensional works that co-op high-end living experiences. Elegant clothes hangers are beautifully compressed into bulbous sculptural masses. Three sizable sculptures engage and mesmerize the unexpected audience. After three months in his new endeavor, Lee claimed, “It’s in me…the art is in my blood! My mind opened up!” With special thanks to guest curator John Pomara, expectations of SITE131 visitors will be engaged and surprised. Construction site: 3 in 3D shows at SITE131 through June 8, 2024. Located at 131 Payne Street, Dallas, Texas 75207, SITE131 is free and open Fridays from noon ~ 5pm andSaturdays from 1~ 3pm and by appointment. An ART CHAT will be scheduled with curator Pomara and the artists on a Saturday during the exhibition. SITE131 continues in loving memory of founding partner Seth Davidow.”
