January 4 - 18, 2024
Un Grito Gallery is pleased to present “Énouement”, a series of ceramic and two-dimensional work by Nick Facundo. The solo exhibition will open Thursday, January 4th and Friday, January 5th, 2024, from 7-10 pm with a closing reception held on January 18th, 2024.
Énouement
Noun, the bittersweetness of having arrived in the future, seeing how things turn out,
but not being able to tell your past self.
As an artist, I immerse myself in the diverse mediums that each evoke distinct emotions and
styles. Through my explorations with colored pencil, the intricacy it offers, screen printing’s
capacity for mass production, and ceramics’ intimate connection with touch, I’ve discovered that art’s meticulous details harbor a hidden intimacy, revealing more upon closer inspection.
In our journey of life, we encounter individuals who profoundly impact and redirect our lives,
albeit temporarily. Gen Z often finds itself adrift, contemplating what might have been instead of recognizing its remarkable progress. Amidst this, it’s the people we encounter who motivate,
educate, nurture, and, above all, inspire us.
As we mature, we grasp the pivotal moments that propelled us to our present. Objects, words,
and images serve as reminders, urging us to pause and acknowledge our growth, extending
gratitude to ourselves and those who influenced our journey.
In this exhibition, I aim to reflect upon these artifacts and memories that harken back to a
cherished past, inviting viewers to partake in a shared moment of nostalgic contemplation.
Artist Bio
Nick Facundo, a Hispanic artist based in San Antonio, TX, delves into the realm of art as a
means to explore the nostalgia of memories and the essence of romance. Through a fusion of
visual rhetoric and abstract imagery, Facundo aims to evoke the sublime and confront the
complexities encountered by contemporary generations. With an intention to examine the
interplay between consumption, production, and cherished intimate memories, Facundo’s
artistic journey revolves around a contemplation of the ties between personal history and
societal narratives. His artistic explorations primarily manifest in colored pencil and ceramics,
although he has recently ventured into the realm of screen printing. Graduating from the
University of Texas at San Antonio with a BFA in 2022, his commitment to exploring these
themes has led to notable showcases of his work. Facundo’s contributions to the artistic sphere
include a video presentation during Contemporary Art Month in 2022, as well as participation in
UTSA’s esteemed annual Student Exhibition of the same year.
