November 16 - February 4, 2024
From AMSET:
“The Art Museum of Southeast Texas (AMSET) will present AMY TOLBERT-FAGGARD: Chasing Realism on view from November 16, 2023 – February 4, 2024 in AMSET’s Café Arts series for local artists.
Amy was born in Sidney, NY but has lived in Southeast Texas since the age of two. Painting, drawing, and a deep interest in learning about art were developed at a young age. Her passion for art continued and she received an art scholarship to attend Lamar University. She graduated with a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with a minor in Art from Lamar in 1994. Several years later she returned to Lamar University and graduated with a Master of Arts in Visual Art in 2013. Using oils as a primary medium, she includes a variety of subject matter while employing a number of different techniques. Amy’s work has been included in many solo and group exhibitions. While she continues exploring new avenues of learning in art, her goal is to continue producing quality artwork that moves and inspires the viewer.
When asked about what Chasing Realism meant to her, Amy said, “Chasing Realism is a journey into the depiction of realistic art… Realistic art, whether it be a landscape or a still-life, awakens all your senses. In your mind’s eye you can feel a breeze, the warmth of the sun, or anticipate the rain. You can feel the texture of detailed fabric or run your hand over a cold glass vase. Everyone relates to realism whether they realize it or not.”
An opening reception will take place on Sunday, January 21, 2024, from 2 – 4 p.m. in the museum’s café. This event is free and open to the public with light refreshments. For more information, visit amset.org or call (409) 832-3432.”
