From Umbrella Gallery:
“回: Home explores yearning associated with forgotten personal history through an anachronistic approach of using the past as a lens to form a clearer view of the present self. By using objects and patterns associated with our pasts, a dialogue is created surrounding interpersonal relationships, heritage, inheritance, and domesticity. Imagery ranges from antiques to hand-me-downs to relics, and are simultaneously forgotten and familiar. They are metaphors for that which never was: a past characterized by fond comfort, love, and stability.
While the narrative imagery is specific to our individual experiences, use of color functions as a point of invitation to viewers. Through varied methods and approaches to the making process opportunities are created for viewers to evaluate their own pasts, imbuing their specific experiences into our own, and mending gaps in the memories presented.
The collective body of work searches to reveal deliberate attempts to erase experiences, uncovering any moments of tenderness purposefully forgotten. This exhibition visualizes and evaluates that which has been obscured in order to cope and fully heal.”
