“The Gallery will reopen on March 22, 2022 with The Status of Women in San Antonio. This exhibition was inspired by the 2019 Report: “The Status of Women in San Antonio” by Rogelio Sáenz and Lily Casura with the University of Texas San Antonio. It features works by a diverse group of 15 local women artists who were asked to reflect on the findings outlined in the report as a prompt for creation of new, original works.
- Artworks by: Adriana Garcia, Audrya Flores, Carmen Johnson Alexander, Cherise Munro, Hiromi Stringer, Jenelle Esparza, Jennifer Ling Datchuk, Kallie Cheves, Karen Robinson , Katherine Cadena, Laura Mijangos-Rapp, Mari Hernandez, Megan Harrison and Sarah Fox
- This exhibit was a collaborative effort between the Department of Arts in Culture and the Metropolitan Health Department‘s Violence Prevention Program to to highlight the report findings and celebrate women artists.
- Artwork examines issues ranging from domestic violence to equal pay to reminding women to reminding women to take time for themselves. Mediums include paintings, photographic constructions, multi-media and fiber art.
- Opens during National Women’s History Month which takes place March 2022.
- Opening Reception will take place on Tuesday, March 22, 2022 from 6 – 9 pm. “
