March 12 - April 30, 2022
From Space C7:
“SPACE C7 is proud to present, A Happier Happiness, an exhibit of new art by Half Japanese frontman and infamous rocker, Jad Fair. In 1974, along with his brother David, Jad co-founded the lo-fi alternative rock group Half Japanese. Over the ensuing three decades, Half Japanese released nearly 30 records, and in the process, attracted a solid base of fans passionate about the band’s pure, unbridled enthusiasm for rock and roll. Jad also performs and records as a solo artist, and has collaborated with such musicians as Daniel Johnston, Teenage Fanclub, Moe Tucker, Yo La Tengo, Thurston Moore, and more. Jad’s talent for album cover design (he designed many of Half Japanese’s and all of his solo album covers) led Jad to a second career as visual artist. His simple, joyous drawings and intricate, complex paper cuttings are shown in galleries around the world including exhibits in Europe, Australia, and Japan. Several books of his intricate cutouts have been published throughout the world. This exhibit will feature hundreds of Jad’s amazing paper cutouts along with some of his big banner works. Please join us in celebrating Jad and his unique talents to the beautiful south side of San Antonio. Jad himself will be in attendance for the above openings and will be performing with his band at the Echo Bridge on Sunday, March 27 th as part of the Contemporary Art Month closing ceremonies. Please follow @echobridgeappreciationsociety for a link to tickets when they go on sale. Our Grand Opening is sponsored by the lovely Nina Hassele, and the Contemporary Art Month Closing Ceremonies is presented by Southwest School of Art, Sala Diaz, and Dorcel Distilling + Brewing Co.
