From the organizers:
” Life is a path we all walk along to traverse through this world and conquer it’s burdens alone and together. To showcase this path we all walk along, Dallas performance artist Erica Felicella will share her latest endurance piece, Journey, on Saturday, Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Main Street Garden Park (1902 Main St, Dallas, TX 75201) in partnership with Downtown Dallas, Inc.
We are never without the presence of others and it can be felt on our shoulders as we move. The upcoming performance will beg the following questions: Is your path heavy and downtrodden? Does it need to be carried with ease and comfort or with sweat and tears?
For one day, artist Erica Felicella will be enacting the infinite path with a community-based, endurance performance. Felicella created Journey as an invitation for others to join her. The public engagement piece only becomes whole when the people around it participate. It is her hope that taking this path with her starts conversations about our collective mental health and wellness. Every stone represents the burdens of life.
“For years, I have been searching for a way to share a physical representation of the mental path traveled. The way we all carry ourselves and the burden of living,” says Felicella. “As someone who walks with a heavy load most of the time, I wanted to create a place where people could see their space in a three dimensional, public sphere.”
Journey was born out of the concept of well-being and what it looks like for the world around us to have the veil lifted for one day and share the inner experience. However, alone we may feel we are always together as an interconnected life force that moves.
The upcoming performance is “a chance to calmly show compassion, empathy or destruction. All are a part of us every day. All require our attention. I am inviting people to share their authentic moments of their current reality. I am there to take what they have to offer for themselves.”
Journey will be presented in collaboration with Downtown Dallas, Inc. and shared in Main Street Garden Park on Nov. 13 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
“We are thrilled to partner with Erica Felicella on this important piece. In today’s society, it is crucial to highlight accessible artwork that illuminates mental health and brings people together. We encourage Dallasites to come out and have a dialogue about mental health at large and about the value art can play in our public spaces in Dallas,” notes Downtown Dallas, Inc. spokesperson Shalissa Perry.”
