May 14 - 29, 2021
From UP Art Studio:
“Big Walls Big Dreams is a 2021 mural-painting festival curated and produced by UP Art Studio, created to bring fresh life to our city as we activate our dreams for better times ahead. In multiple communities May 14-23, commissioned local artists will simultaneously paint murals across Houston. The whole community can watch these big creative visions emerge on daily photos and videos posted on social media or can visit the sites to socially-distanced watch the artists at work. The murals will remain to brighten and beautify the neighborhoods.
A special community event the weekend of May 21-23 will feature a self-guided Mural Tour. This family-friendly event offers a fun way to get “out and about” to see the city with fresh eyes and get energized by the new murals. Visit www.bigwallsbigdreams.com after May 15 to download the Mural Tour Map. Everyone is encouraged to join the fun (while maintaining a safe social distance). Plan ahead for a day of “Refreshing” – be the first to see the murals, perhaps do some “nature bathing” in a park/greenspace nearby, stop for a cool refreshing beverage, and enjoy a meal to support local businesses along the way.
This event is one in a series curated and produced by UP Art Studio that explores the theme of Big Walls Big Dreams. Previous events have occurred annually in Miami during the world-renowned Art Basel Week since 2013, and more are planned.
Big Walls Big Dreams is funded in part by the City of Houston through Houston Arts Alliance.
Big Walls Big Dreams is a fiscally sponsored project of Fresh Arts, a non-profit arts service organization.”
