From the Dallas Contemporary:
“Dallas Contemporary, the leading contemporary arts museum in Dallas, is thrilled to announce its upcoming Car Ball. Conceived as a drive-in and socially distanced rest-stop experience, the event celebrates the museum’s newly built parking lot thanks to the partnership of Ewing Properties and aims to safely bring together its long standing community of creatives and supporters. Car Ball will take place at the museum (161 Glass St, Dallas, TX) on Thursday, 12 November 2020 from sunset to midnight.
Guests attending Car Ball will enjoy a spin through the new parking lot featuring live painting by Dallas-based artist JM Rizzi, a return of FriendsWithYou’s The Dance, installations of new video work by Dallas-based artist Hillary Holsonback and a selection of low-rider cars and bikes curated by Puerto Rico-born and Chicago-based visual artist Carlos Rolón (Dzine). Guests that crave more from the experience are invited to park their car and join in for a socially distant rest-stop experience in the museum. Casa Dragones will have a tasting room for its joven tequila flanked by video installations by artist Pedro Reyes who had a solo show at Dallas Contemporary in 2016. Roxor Gin will be crafting custom cocktails with their Founder & Managing Partner, Don Short. The Guadalajara inspired eatery, José, will be on deck with a one-night pop-up serving up bites and their legendary squozens w/ Casa Dragones blanco. Also, it’s Bryan Black flash night at the DC’s rest-stop! Bryan will be taking tattoo walk-ins all night benefiting the museum (purchased separately). Beau Bedford, the Dallas-based producer and mastermind behind Modern Electric Sound Recorder’s studios brings together some of the city’s leading musicians for a night of DJ sets and live music. Expect tunes from Christy Ray + DJ Sober + Jason Burt (Electrophunck).
Timed entry tickets, available here, and are priced at $100 for a two hour visit and at $275 for an all nighter option. Proceeds from the evening will raise vital funds for Dallas Contemporary in a year where the health crisis forced the museum to temporarily close in mid-March (will re-open January 2021) and cancel its Gala – their single largest fundraiser of the year. Car Ball is generously supported by Veritex Bank, Katten Muchin Rosenman LLP, Topo Chico, Jose, Casa Dragones and Roxor Gin.”
