The first film directed by an African American woman – Julie Dash – to be theatrically distributed. Five women of a Gullah family living on the Sea Islands off the Georgia coast in 1902 contemplate moving to the mainland in this tale of change. Following the screening, a talk back with the audience will be moderated by Dr. Wardlaw and Assata Richards, Ph.D, Director of the Young Mothers Residential Program, Project Row Houses.
