From Clamp Light Studios:
“ABOUT THE EXHIBITION: “It’s Not Fun Anymore” is a collection focused on healing from the anxieties brought on by the recent pandemic. The last year and a half has been a time where fears that were never experienced before provided a constant sense of panic and despair. With lots of free time that came from unemployment to reflect and reevaluate, the artist took up new hobbies and interests. Quilting, textile work and collages were all fairly new mediums to the artist during this time. Now on the other side of 2020, these new mediums are used as tools to heal from the trauma of constant stress.
Artist Bio: Ursula Zavala is a mixed media artist from the Southside of San Antonio, TX. Their work combines ideas of humor, religion, and internet culture to create a dialog of current issues within and around the artist. Their work plays with contrasts of hard and soft, fun and sadness, chaos and order. They are constantly mixing and remixing mediums to create a balance between opposing forces. With work in various types of materials ranging from digital design and painting, to textiles and collage, they are constantly trying to find structure in chaos and familiarity in the unfamiliar. Zavala has had many exhibitions throughout the city and is currently making work in the studio space behind Not For You Gallery which they also work at as director of operations.
